Swimming Class

Kellen started his new swim class on Sunday morning (9:30-10:00am). This new class is in a super big pool and his class is huge!! There were 30 babies and 30 parents all in one section of the pool! (his last swim class had 5 kids and 5 parents!). The pool is awesome...it has a huge wading pool attached to the shallow end of the pool, as well as 2 baby water slides! Kellen had lots of fun playing in the water and showing off his brand new, big boy, bathing suit! (along with his new scratched up face...we got lots of sympathy from the other mommies and daddies at his swim class!)

After his swim class, we like to go to Tim Horton's (I wonder who chose this location?!!?!) for some breakfast! Kellen likes to share a bagel with me along with some apple juice! All that swiming sure does work up an appetite! Here is Kellen hanging out in the car after we had to make a mad dash to get out of the crazy rain!

Oh, no....OUCH!

Behold our first big injury.

Today was absolutely beautiful outside, so we decided to go for a walk up and down our street. Kellen is getting really good at walking so I let him walk with me. He was having a ball and was getting really excited as he watched the dogs and people walking by....and then we stopped to pick up a leaf - and that went well...but then he saw a stone. He squatted down to pick it up and fell flat on his face! He started to scream so I quickly picked him up, thinking he was just startled...but then I saw his face. He had dirt (you know, pavement dirty stuff) all down his face, in his eye, up his nose, in his mouth....and his little nose and cheek were bleeding. I felt so bad! We went upstairs to clean him up...and this is the result.....poor baby! These pictures actually don't even show how bad it is...his eye and cheek are really swollen. Luckily, Kellen has been a real trooper and continued to have lots of fun for the rest of the day!

....not impressed with his new look - nothing like getting your first shiner right before you start your new baby classes. It has been fun already having to explain to everyone who sees us that he fell on the driveway...and that he doesn't actually always look like this!

A new favourite thing that Kellen is doing these days (other than hiding everything we own in places we would never guess....and falling flat on his face!) is to empty out our laundry baskets and climb in and out of them...alot. It is pretty funny to watch because he will actually slide into the basket on his belly and then stand up to climb out.

...it looks pretty far down, I better hold on!

...and back out we go!

Kellen also likes to hang out in the sink while I'm doing dishes. After lunch, he will sometimes keep insisting that he join me while I'm cleaning the dishes - so, he sits in the dry sink and controls the faucet for me....he is really good at making sure I never run out of water!

After his bath, Kellen loves to climb onto his chair and jump around....or lie down and kick his legs while laughing. Bathtime just brings out the silly side of Kellen! Check out how long he looks in these pictures!!

Kellen loves to take the top of the pots and pans and bang them together as well as look at himself in their reflection....here he is taking a break from banging them to play a little music on his fridge musical magnet.

Here is Kellen walking around with the cord to his baby monitor...yes, he pulled it right out of the wall and took it for a stroll around our place. He ended up putting it in a pot.

Here is Kellen this morning with a little car in his hand...he loves his little cars...and also loves to put them in new places everyday (as you'll see soon!).

So, Kellen's new thing to do now that he is walking, is to take things and hide them all over the house. Every single day, we have to go through the house and find things to put back (and hope it wasn't something that could go rotten!)....here are some things I found just in one morning!

Good thing I looked in this drawer today....Kellen didn't want me to get hungry while putting on
my pants.

Play

Auntie Kathy got Kellen a blow-up penguin for his birthday.....Kellen isn't sure if he loves the penguin, or if should just fight the penguin. Here he is getting ready to push the poor penguin to the ground....I wonder who will win this fight?!?!?

Kellen and penguin called a truce...they are best buds now.

Kellen loves, absolutely loves, to play music on his music table. Not only is he super talented at playing music, but he can dance like like a champ! Watch for him on "So you think you can dance!"

Drum Roll Please...

Playing with his farm animals - he loves to press all the buttons and hear the noises that the animals make!

Kellen is also getting very good at undressing himself...here he is after he got his arms out of his shirt and was trying to pull the shirt over his head....luckily for us, the shirt got stuck, giving us time to pull the shirt back down and re-dress him!

Kellen had his 1 year appointment today and he weighs 25 pounds, 1 ounce and is 32 1/2 inches long! He has gained well in both areas - and his height puts in the 100th percentile for his age!

The doctor didn't give him his shots because he had a cold 2 weeks ago and has been super, super miserable for this past week. We thought it might be an ear infection, but it seems that his ears are okay. He does have a red and swollen throat along with swollen gums where the doctor sees 4 molars coming through - and this is what has been causing him pain....poor little guy.

Kellen Walking!

Here are two videos of Kellen walking. He has actually been walking for the past couple of weeks, but we were never able to get in on camera....so, here he is walking all by himself! He is so cute how he is still a bit wobbly, but he is even able to walk in different directions without falling over now!

Smiles and Knee Socks

As I have mentioned before, Kellen was sick last week with a bad cold. And, when you have a bad cold, you should always wear nice, warm, knee socks to keep your toes and legs warm! We think he just might be bringing in a really cool (albeit, different) fashion trend. Here he is rocking out to his new toy from mommy and daddy...it is a little table with a thousand different musical "instruments" and sounds on it.

And, Mr. Hedgehog is keeping watch to make sure nobody tries to get near his way cool knee socks...thanks, Mr. Hedgehog!!!

Like Father, Like Son

Just a quick note to point out something I've noticed since Kellen's first birthday....Kellen LOVES chocolate! He ate almost all of his little birthday cupcake (which was chocolate) and has loved having chocolate milk (he doesn't get this often, but he loves it when he does). Then yesterday, I have having some chocolate ice cream and I gave him a little try...well, he wouldn't leave me alone! He stood beside me while I ate and he could have eaten an entire bowl! Then today, I was eating a Joe Louie (how do you spell that...and yes, I've been on a crazy chocolate kick myself these past few days!) and he grabbed it from me and ate about a quarter of it!

Any of you who know Shawn, know his crazy love of all things chocolate...and it looks like Kellen is following right along with this love of chocolate too!!

Sick Day at Home

I must apologize for not posting anything for over a week...but Kellen and I have been sick with bad colds and just feeling too miserable to take any pictures! Kellen was really struggling with his cold because it caused him to be really congested so he couldn't breath through his nose - basically, he was just miserable.

However, he was still able to mix in some fun during our sick days together - Check out that cute smile (and new birthday outfit!) he's sporting!

I should also mention that for the past 2 weeks, Kellen has been walking!!!!! He can walk across the room now!!! I promise to post a video the moment I can actually take it - Kellen will not allow me to take many pictures or videos of him these days without him crawling to me and grabbing at the camera.

And here is Kellen rubbing his nose on the side of the couch - interesting alternative to blowing your nose (not very nice for the couch!).

Kellen was clapping along to a song I was singing..I think the cold must have made his coordination a little off!

Ahhh...medicine! "Give me some of this, mommy!"

..."Never mind...you're taking too long...I'll do it myself!"

...."What?!?! Was I not supposed to give myself the medicine??!"

Kellen enjoying the view outside. It was so sunny last week, but very cold! Good day to stay inside!

"The phones ringing...I'll get it!" He looks a little stunned here because I yelled "Don't touch!" to him as he was about to pick up the phone.

Here is Kellen making his way over to the phone again...he loves to play with the phone...he will pick up the receiver and hand it to you for you to speak into. Then, he presses all the buttons while putting the phone on "speaker phone".

....'Give me the camera, mommy!!!!!!" This is what happens pretty much every time I have the camera out where he can see it - he must have it in his hands!

...."Never mind about the camera....I hear a truck!"

I love how little Kellen still looks when he is standing at the windows.

Happy 1st Birthday!!!!

It was Kellen's very first birthday today and everyone came by the house to help us celebrate! We had a little birthday party from 2-4pm today and Kellen had so much fun visiting with everyone! He wanted to thank everyone for coming over and for all the beautiful presents!!!

The very first time Kellen has ever had chocolate (or sugar for that matter!)...he loved it and ate his cupcake quite quickly! Afterward, he had this dazed look...I think it is a sugar hangover!

...."What is this stuff?!?! I just can't stop eating it!"

Here is Kellen in the morning...while Shawn and I were getting ready for his birthday party, Kellen decided to empty the laundry basket and climb underneath! He was doing this for about 10 minutes!

In the morning, Kellen was playing with the silver dollar that Grandpa gave him to celebrate the year he was born....way back in 2008! Thank you, Grandpa!!
