A week in the life of Kellen before he turns 1!

Well, one thing that Kellen has been doing alot of lately is climbing up on everything he can find! He will find a way to climb into his toy bin, on the table, up to the computer....pretty much everything in the house - yes, we have a little monkey on our hands! Here he is after pushing the stool close to his toys and using it to climb in!

And here is Kellen very unimpressed with me after I chased him and found him trying to climb into the bathtub. He is obsessed with getting into the bathtub to play with the plug and the drain. This was also about the tenth time I had to get him away from the tub!

Kellen loves to play with anything from the kitchen. He found the steamer (the thing you put in the pot to steam veggies....no idea what it's actually called!) and loves opening and closing it....it was his source of entertainment for a good 10 minutes!

....and here is Kellen climbing into Shawn's guitar...like I said, he will climb into or onto everything!

Kellen also loves to play with our phones. He will grab our main phone and hand you the receiver. Then, he presses all the buttons and waits for you to talk to someone (mainly the operator who reminds you to "please hang up and try your call again"). He also loves our cell phones because he can open and close them which makes them light up!

Having a very messy lunch with daddy.

Wearing one of mommy's t-shirts. He is already supporting mommy's school! On the topic of clothing, Kellen has started to undress himself. He will pull his sleeves until his arm is out and will then step on his pants until he can pull his legs out....ahh, the adventures of Kellen!

Kellen being all cute while looking out the window.

Reaching for daddy after he notices the camera.

The return of mommy's t-shirt (darn Blogger for not putting the pictures in the right order!)

Kellen has been out of sorts lately. We think it's because he has a couple of teeth coming in that must be bothering him. Last week, he woke up early from his nap but was still tired. So, Shawn just held him and he fell fast asleep on Shawn's chest...it was very cute. He hasn't slept anywhere but his crib in the longest time.

...and here he is a big groggy after waking up from his nap with daddy.

Kellen is fascinated with the vaccuum. He loves to watch it move around and must be close enough to it at all times to see what it is doing...however, the moment the vaccuum gets a little too close for comfort, he freaks out and begs you to pick him up and save him from this monster! Here he is checking out the vaccuum before it starts making those loud noises!

My Very First Haircut!!!

So, Kellen's hair was getting a bit out of control. It was getting super long in some areas (mainly over his ears and his bangs) and just not looking as cute as it could! However, the good thing about longer hair is that it curled up! Here are some pictures of Kellen after his bath showing off his curls (which hide how long his hair was getting!).
Here he is showing off his little mohawk that I like to do with his hair...it looks like a 1950's slicked hair-do!

And here is Kellen getting annoyed that I keep wanting to take pictures of his hair instead of getting him dressed!

So, last Thursday, we took Kellen to get his very first haircut!!! We took him to Melonheads, which is an amazing children's hair salon just about 5 minutes from our place. He started off sitting in his plane, but once she started cutting his hair, he wanted mommy. So, I held him while she cut his hair. He was super good the whole time! It was really funny when she tried to use the razor at the end of his haircut...everytime she turned it on, Kellen would keep turning to look at it so she barely got to use it!

At the end of his haircut, they took a picture of him in his airplane chair and gave him a certificate (along with his picture and a bag of his hair) to celebrate his first haircut!!

Here he is enjoying his cool airplane chair.

And here he is not enjoying mommy using the brush on his face to get rid of some hairs that the hairdresser missed!

...and now he is ready to go home!

What's new with Kellen

Kellen has been doing so many new things that I thought I would share some of these things with you.
1. He loves to flush the toilet. Whenever you are in the washroom (yes, it is so much fun to have a little person sneak in everytime you close the door!), he crawls to the side of the toilet and will flush the toilet!
2. He loves to open and close the windows.
3. He loves to dance! The moment he hears something that sounds like a beat, he does his up and down bopping move!
4. He gives you "kisses" (it's actually a "raspberry") on your cheek if you point to your cheek and say "Kiss, kiss"
5. He points to what he wants to go toward. It is really cute...he actually doesn't point with his finger, he slowly reaches his arm outward with his palm still facing him.
6. He loves to look at dogs...and can now say "dog"
7. He can walk between pieces of furniture. He can also stand without any support for a while now.
8. He is obsessed with throwing everything over his shoulders (especially his food). He also is obsessed with pushing his food all over his tray until if falls off his tray....I am not a fan of either of these two new things.
9. He likes to put his face in the water while he's having a bath...and he is obsessed with touching everything in the tub (faucets, tiles, etc) while having his bath.
10. He likes to throw himself onto piles of pillows or blankets. He sometimes misses the pile, or flies off the pile, and has the bumps on his forhead to prove it.
11. He is super good at putting things together and figuring out how things work with each other.
12. He goes crazy with excitement when either Shawn or myself enter the room.
13. He loves to play peek-a-boo on the side of the couch.
14. You have never met someone who loves meat the way Kellen loves it...he eats as much as I do when we have meat for a meal.
15. He has 5 teeth with 3 more pushing through.
16. KELLEN IS THE CUTEST BABY IN THE WORLD!!!!!

What should we eat today?

Kellen loves to investigate what is going on in the fridge. The moment we open the fridge, he is right there! He loves to pull on all the jars in the door and then pull out anything he can touch from the inside of the fridge. He pulls out all of his yogurts and puts them on the floor...then he returns them to where he found them (okay, just to somewhere within his reach in the fridge!).

Here he is pulling out a pudding that he thought Shawn might like as a snack. Lately, Kellen is really into "sharing" with us. He will take some of his food and put it toward our mouths. He also does this with anything from the fridge!

Now, he has pulled out a snack for himself...just checking out the calories and fat content first!

He approves!! Let's eat!!! (Notice how he is standing without any support in these pictures!!!)

Happy Valentine's Day!

Abuelita and Grampa sent Kellen his very first Valentine's Day card and he just loves it!!! It is one of those musical cards that sings a song whenever you open it. We had to bend the front of the card a bit so that he could actually open it all by himself. However, he always picks it up and opens and closes it several times a day...and whenever he does, he gets a big smile on his face. And, if he is standing while opening it, he does a little jiggy dance! Thanks Abuelita and Grampa!!!

Why the two videos are side-by-side is beyond me, however, the next video is of Kellen doing on of his new things....whenever you are trying to drink water, he becomes super determined to put his hand into your glass and "pull" the water out...he must think that the glass needs help and that he must remove the water from it in order to save the glass! It is really cute to watch because he does it with such a serious look.

Measuring Tape and Shoe Fun

Giggles for his new toy - my shoe. He loves any shoes with straps on them. He likes to swing the shoes around, eat the strap, and then throw the shoe over his shoulder (see below for an explanation!).
Everytime we open the front closet, he grabs my shoes....one day he will figure out how to use that strap!

Showing off his long hair...we are trying to wait for Kellen to reach his 1st birthday before we cut it, but it is really getting long! In the meantime, we will continue to give him a great part right down the middle - '70's style!

Kellen loves to swing the measuring tape around and then fling it over his shoulder (which is his new thing to do....he throws EVERYTHING over his shoulders, including food)

Thank you Aunt Cindy for the pictures!

Auntie Cindy sent me lots and lots of pictures of the family...and that included loads of pictures of Kellen! I thought I would share some pictures (okay, lots of pictures!) of Kellen. Here he is with cousin Alyjah at Christmas. Kellen absolutely loves to hang out with Alyjah and has a blast playing with him. Here he is making weird noises in Alyjah's ear and jumping up and down wanting to play!

Auntie Cindy and Alyjah visiting Kellen the day after he was born...look how small he was!!

This was taken in the summer. We had Shawn's family over for a BBQ...again, look how small Kellen is in this picture!

Checking out a Christmas ornament we received as a gift at Christmas.

In the fall, we all went to the pumpkin farm (at Whittamore Farms in Pickering). It is lots of fun with all sorts of animals, hay rides, food, pumpkin patches and lots more. Here we are on a Hay ride that goes through a haunted forest....Kellen was a trooper and wasn't scared at all!

Hanging out with Daddy and Grandma and Aunt Cindy's house this past weekend for Shawn's birthday.

Ahhh, cousins hanging out....I love this picture!

At Grandma's birthday last May. All the great food just tuckered Kellen out!

Look how small he was!!! This was taken last summer...and notice how much his hair has grown since then!

Kellen on his 2nd day of life. I cannot believe how quickly time has flown by this year. I truly cannot believe that my baby was actually that tiny!
(I think I just posted the same picture twice...good thing it's a cute picture!)
